Prior to 1965, it was known as "Pill Hill" because of the large number of doctors that live there. After African Americans began moving into the area, especially musicians and film actors, it was given the nickname the Black Beverly Hills.

Ladera Heights, California

Ladera Heights is an affluent African American community. The median family income is $132,824, making Ladera Heights one of the wealthiest African American communities in the United States. Much of the area's appeal stems from the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean available from many hillside houses, as well as its proximity to beaches, Hollywood, Los Angeles International Airport and the San Diego Freeway.

View Park-Windsor Hills, California

View Park-Windsor Hills is an affluent African American community. The median family income is $159,168, making View Park-Windsor Hills one of the wealthiest African American communities in the United States. The two communities are part of a band of districts, from Culver City's Fox Hills district on the west to the Los Angeles district of Leimert Park on the east, that comprise the single largest geographically contiguous middle and upper class African American community in the United States.
