October 3rd Event to benefit Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF)

Ford Motor Company will be the platinum sponsor of the fourth annual Jazz on the Grass benefit on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Sherman Oaks, California home of Lynne and Oz Scott.  

Oprah's Angel Network has awarded a US$50,000 grant to The Hunger Project (THP) to expand the organization's community mobilization and leadership programs in Uganda. These programs enable rural communities to overcome their own hunger and poverty on a sustainable basis.

THP's strategies support people in building self-reliant futures free from hunger and poverty.

Skipping the usual approach of holding a raffle to award prizes, the local chapter of the Red Cross is putting its latest toy to work in handing out free tickets, drinks and a VIP package to its upcoming “Gala in the Grecian Gardens” fundraiser.

The disaster relief organization has been enjoying the benefits of Twitter, a timely messenger service that allows quick “tweets” to provide updates during emergencies or announce items of interest, since the Jesusita fire tore through the hills of Santa Barbara.

The Come Together campaign will launch in mid-September with one of Macy’s famous celebrity TV spots featuring the retailer’s “star” designers.

The commercial directed by Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black, The Addams Family) running in 30-second and 60-second spots, will feature an all-star cast including Jessica Simpson, Queen Latifah, Mariah Carey, Usher, Martha Stewart, Emeril Lagasse, Tommy Hilfiger and Donald Trump. A Spanish-language commercial will also feature TV star Carlos Ponce.

Organizers of the African American Empowerment Fund of Delaware (AAEFD), a new philanthropic initiative of the Delaware Community Foundation, will officially launch the fund in Sussex County at the Sussex County Association of Realtors (SCAOR), 23407 Park Ave., in Georgetown, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. this July 23.

A Kano-based philanthropist, Alhaji Lawan Umar Shakka, has given scholarships to over 5,000 students in Kano State that will ginger the students to continue pursuing their education in tertiary institutions across the country.
