President Obama declares a Black College Week for HBCUs

HBCU Alumni will be thrilled to learn that the week of August 30 through September 5, 2009 is officially National HBCU Week. The White House released a proclamation from the President officiating the week and praising HBCUS for spawning some of America's most notorious Black leaders.

Under Reported: 100 Professors Helped Students Get Their PHDs

German prosecutors are investigating about 100 professors across the country on suspicion they took bribes to help students get their doctoral degrees, authorities said Saturday.

The investigation is focused on the Institute for Scientific Consulting, based in Bergisch Gladbach, just east of Cologne, which allegedly acted as the intermediary between students and the professors, said Cologne prosecutor's spokesman Guenther Feld.

Feld confirmed reports of the investigation in both Focus magazine and the Neue Westfaelische newspaper, but would not give further details.

Justin Dunnavant graduated recently from Howard University. He studied in Africa this past summer and will spend the next 10 months to a year in Jamaica as a Fulbright Scholar.

Justin Dunnavant is not your average 21-year-old.

Justin Dunnavant graduated from Gov. Thomas Johnson High School at age 15 and continued on to Howard University, where he earned two undergraduate degrees in May 2009 -- history and anthropology.

This summer, Dunnavant marked his 21st birthday in Africa.
